September at a glance in Kindergarten!

Welcome to Kindergarten! September was a busy month for the Kindergarten class.
We started the year with a play day at Lake Ontario Park. Some of the students got to ride a school bus for the first time, which was very exciting! We played games with the older students, went in the splash pad, played at the park, and had a picnic.

We went to the Kingston Fall Fair where we learned about Blacksmiths, agriculture, and turkeys.  We got to pet goats, cows, and  visited the Police horse!

We learned about the changes that happen when the seasons change from summer to fall.  We began learning our shapes, colours, and numbers and played lots of games.

We began learning about letters and what sounds they make. We do a craft for every sound we learn!

What a fantastic month!

February Fun!

WOW!!! February was a very busy month with Groundhog Day, Valentine’s Day, 3 Little Cataraqui Creek trips, the 100th Day of School, the ski trip, Family Day, and squeezing in time for classroom learning!

We learned about hibernation and animals that adapt to winter during our visits to Little Catarqui Creek.  We pretended to be animals and made warm homes for ourselves in the snow and in trees so we could stay warm for the winter.  We learned about what changes occur in animals to adapt to the colder weather.  We enjoyed some warm tea with each visit while enjoying the beautiful weather.  We can’t forget about feeding the chickadees!

Falling Into Fall!

Falling Into Fall!

Fall is here, and we have been busy exploring it!  We have been talking about all of the changes that are beginning to happen and the changes that will be happening in the next few weeks.

We started with Thanksgiving. We discussed what being thankful means and brainstormed things that we could be thankful for.  We had some great things to be thankful for!  We made placemats and wrote down what we were most thankful for.

Then, we made turkeys for Thanksgiving!

We visited Little Cat Creek for the last fall session.  Queen Autumn came out to join us and shared some autumn tea.  We climbed on rocks and went for a beautiful autumn hike.  What a gorgeous day!

We played some fun fall games in Math, focusing on shapes, measurement, and counting skills.

We learned a poem called Dingle, Dangle Scarecrow and made scarecrow masks .  Each child had a turn pointing to the words as we learned the poem.  We also picked out words that we already knew to help us read the poem.

We went on a fall hunt to find any signs of fall.

Lastly, we went on a trip to the corn maze! We took a ferry, completed a corn maze, petted a few bunnies, had a snack, ate a picnic lunch, and learned about corn.  When we returned back to school, we coloured a corn picture and practiced copying the sentence under the picture.  It was a great day!

Moooo-ve aside! Here we come!

This has been a very exciting second week in Kindergarten!  Our class learned all about cows for the Fall Fair.

We were very curious and had lots of questions!  We found the answers we were looking for in videos, books, and by searching the internet.  Afterwards, we made some very cute cows eating grass.

We learned how to milk a cow!

Finally, we got to visit the Fall Fair!  There, we got to pet cows, horses, baby chicks, and other farm animals.  We watched a sheep get sheered using a 110 year old machine, and watched a Blacksmith make a hook from a rod. We saw motorcycles do tricks, ate corn on the cob, apples, and drank milk!  What a great day!

I am looking forward to visiting Little Catraqui Creek for the first time next Tuesday!
