Engineering

The Kindergarten class finished their Engineering unit! We had fun learning about different kinds of Engineers (yes, a train Engineer is not the only type of Engineer).  We learned that Engineers need to plan their projects, need to experiment using different materials, and use trial and error before the project is complete.

First we talked about mazes and planned out a maze which needed to include some tricks for Ms. Trish.  We then made a maze using cotton swabs.  This was much trickier than we were expecting.

Then we made rockets.  We experimented using different amounts of air pressure and saw how it affected how far the rockets flew.  We also experimented using different angles and had races. There was a lot of squealing and laughing!  We had so much fun!

Lastly, We made our own city!  We talked about things we find in Kingston, and what kinds of community helpers we find in Kingston.  We then planned out how our city was going to look, and everyone had their own building that they had to plan out.  They drew pictures of their buildings and had to build a replica on the carpet in the same location as on our planning map.  Challenging, but fun!  At the end, we added animals, cars, and people and we played with it!
