Grade 7/8 Blog: Week of November 6th!

Debate, Ottawa, projects and more!

This week, the grade 7/8 class had a wonderful time holding a debate and visiting the Ottawa war museum! On Monday, the grade 8s started their new unit in science on microscopes and biology. We studied the anatomy of a microscope and how to properly use one. On Wednesday, the grade 8s dressed up in their business clothes and debated which livability factor of Kingston was more important than the others.

Autumn: Food availability

Claire: Infrastructure

Megan: Crime and violence

Quintyn: Parks and creative spaces

Emma: Pollution

Kevin: Climate

The rest of the grade 7s were observers and came up with questions for the candidates. It was super exciting and each of the candidates brought up very good points! There was also a science test to finish up the grade 8s unit on fluids. On Friday, the grades 3-8 attended the Ottawa war museum in honor of Remembrance Day. It was a long two and a half hour trip to the museum, but it was all worth it when we arrived! We started off with an interactive

workshop where we became the teachers and got to select specific arti facts to support our statements, then began our journey into the museum. While looking at the unique items, we drew 5 of our favourite sights as an art assignment! The grade 7/8s finally dove into the world of personal projects, discussing topics and formats. The personal projects are mandatory for the graduating students, but all of the grade 7s have decided to take on the challenge as well! This is a year long project that must affect the community in some manner and must contain a mentor to discuss ideas with along the way. This is the first year Lakeshore has assigned a personal project, but some of the teachers have used them in their previous schools. Overall, this week has been full of educational and fun new activities and projects!
