INTO THE CORN!!!

On Friday, October the 13th, the entire school travelled to Wolfe Island to the very windy corn maze. We started the journey by venturing onto the ferry where we all got a bit wet because the waves were so strong. We decided to go inside the ferry to enjoy the sights and the waves behind safe glass. We arrived at the corn maze where we me up with Garth, who let us have a snack and gave us the rules of the maze. Our classes insisted that they wanted to go into the Frontier maze which was equipped with 22 dead ends, each of which showed the 22 previous Prime Ministers of Canada. Every time we hit a dead end, we took a picture of the prime minister. Ms. Van De Ven’s group only managed to encounter 7 dead ends; however, Ms. Singh’s group hit a few more.

Inside the maze, Anders and Kevin played a bit of a prank on us, hiding in the maze and jumping out to scare us. Ms. Singh also had a minor spill and tripped over a large stock of corn. It was quite hilarious!!!! We took a lot of “corn-y” photos throughout the maze.

To get out of the maze (since we were lost) we were told to follow the windmill and use our walkie-talkies to talk with the other groups and with Garth. We were glad to see the trading post, the half way point of the maze.

After a few more wrong turns, it was a relief to finally get out of the maze. We were happy to see out #23, Justin Trudeau, the current Prime Minister of Canada.

We left the maze and ran back to the barn through a big field. All this excitement got us hungry for lunch.

Once we were finished eating, Garth brought out a few bunnies for us to pet. A few of us even got to help Garth bring goats out of the barn to look at. Just as we were about to learn more about corn and the growing process, Garth found out that the ferry was backed up,and if we didn’t leave immediately, we would miss the ferry. It would have gotten us back to school too late. We had such a wonderful day and really enjoyed escaping the maze.

In the world of academics, we had a wonderful class bonding experience when we got to read our favourite paragraphs from our memoirs with Ms. Singh. We enjoyed a yummy hot chocolate and fantastic treats!!
