New Year News in the Kindergarten Class!

New Year News in the Kindergarten Class!

It is February already! January flew by in the Kindergarten class!

We started by skating at the Invista Center for Phys Ed.  The children persevered and improved each time we went.  We have some very good skaters in our class! They did an awesome job and had a great time!  The big kids helped them gain confidence on the ice and had just as much fun as they did.

We studied ice, snow, and water and watched as they melted in the class.  We predicted which one would have the most liquid in the container after they all melted.  The children were very surprised to learn that, when the snow and ice melted, neither was as full as the water.  We then talked about why and that turned into questions about whether it would freeze again in a different locations or not.  We put one in the fridge, one in the freezer, and one outside.  Then the predictions started again!

We also made slime to take home!

The class started Show and Tell!  They were very excited to start!  They have learned how to present Show and Tell to the class and  have also learned how to be a respectful audience. It has been a great experience for everyone! Did I mention that the kids LOVE it!!!

The students have also been working really hard on reading and writing!  Some students have started reading to the younger students in class using the word families we are learning.  We are sounding words out, spelling words, and finishing sentences.  There are different reading groups and somestudents are working on a harder Jolly Phonics book.  I am so proud of all of them!

The Grade 7/8 class came down and did a few Math lessons with us!  They had different activities for the kids to do, including graphing, adding, subtracting, and tally charts.  It is always fun when the big kids get to be teachers in our class!

What a fun-filled, busy month in the Kindergarten class!!
